In April 2026, a six-person team in Natchez, Mississippi built a regional infrastructure company in one weekend. Not a startup. Not a SaaS tool. Infrastructure — the kind of thing that AT&T builds with billions and municipal governments plan for decades.

The Problem

The infrastructure gap isn't technology. It's organization. Somebody has to sit in the middle and connect the directory to the media to the hardware to the financial layer. That coordination is the product.
What We Built
Layer 1: The Platform
One Next.js codebase. 122 database models. 14 domains. Multi-tenant architecture that runs Big Muddy (Natchez), Bearsville Creative (Woodstock, NY), and any future region from a single Vercel deployment.
The platform includes: a business directory, a magazine, a radio station, a record label, a touring circuit, a photography studio, a video production company, and an AI pipeline that drafts review responses, generates social posts, creates monthly reports, and answers customer questions — all from the same data.
Total infrastructure cost: $33/month. Vercel ($20), Neon database ($0-25), Cloud SQL ($13), Cloudflare ($0). The system that replaces $2,600/month in SaaS tools for each business costs $33/month to run for all of them.
Layer 2: The Hardware
A Raspberry Pi 5 in an aluminum case with a 256GB NVMe drive. Costs $165 to build. Sells for $299 standalone or $0 with a subscription. The business owner plugs it into their TV and their menu board, review dashboard, and AI assistant appear on screen.
The Pi works offline. It works on battery power. It works on solar. It works tethered to a phone in a field with no WiFi. It works inside a Faraday cage.
This is not a gadget. This is customer premises equipment — the same category as a cable box, a POS terminal, or a phone from your carrier. The business doesn't think about it. It's just there, on the counter, doing work.
Layer 3: The Display Network
Additional Pis at $99 per screen turn every TV in a business into managed signage. Menu boards, specials rotation, Instagram feed, radio visualizer, event schedules — all managed from a phone. Five screens coordinated for $199/month.
Every deployed Pi is a permanent anchor. Nobody cancels the service that runs their menu board. Nobody returns the hardware that's mounted next to their register. Churn drops to near zero because the product is physical and visible.
Layer 4: The Media Company
The directory isn't just a listing service. Behind it is a magazine that writes features about listed businesses. A radio station that mentions them on air. A photography studio that shoots them. A touring circuit that brings audiences to their door.
A business paying $99/month gets their Google listing fixed AND a magazine feature AND radio mentions AND professional photography. No SaaS competitor on earth offers that because no SaaS competitor owns media properties. The media is the moat.
Layer 5: The Financial Layer
This is where it becomes infrastructure.
A regional bank sees a business that's been on the platform for 6 months. The bank can see: review score trending up, social posting consistent, customer engagement growing, Pi active on the network, revenue signals stable. That data is a credit signal — more accurate than a FICO score for a small business because it measures actual business health, not personal credit history.
DSD becomes the underwriting data source. The Pi on the counter is the proof of activity. The bank lends based on platform data. The business gets a loan it couldn't get before. DSD gets a referral fee. The bank gets a borrower they can actually assess.
The credit union doesn't need to build technology. DSD already built it. They just need to read the signal.
The Math
For the business owner:
- Before: $0 in marketing, invisible on Google, no reviews, no social presence, can't get a loan
- After: $99/month, listing corrected, reviews monitored, social on autopilot, magazine feature, loan-eligible

- Multi-region model that clones (scalable playbook)
- Media properties that create content moats (defensible)

That's acquirable infrastructure. Not because of the technology — every piece is open source or commodity SaaS. Because of the organization. The same architecture that runs a Viacom can run a small-town economy. The gap was never technology. It was someone willing to sit in the middle and connect the pieces.

- Find the smallest bank in your county. The one with the "community" in its name. Ask: "If I could show you real-time business health data on your borrowers, would you lend differently?"
